‘I’m a good player’ – Mo Salah makes a strong statement on Liverpool’s first goal as show incredible vision and accuracy against Man City

An excellent assist from Salah teed up Cody Gakpo to put the Reds ahead amid a dominant first half from the hosts at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Salah whistled in a low centre from the right and Gakpo – included ahead of Darwin Nunez – arrived at the back stick to shin it over the line for his sixth goal in seven games, with City skipper Kyle Walker seemingly unaware of the scorer’s whereabouts.

Post-match, Salah spoke to Sky Sports about his first assist

Mohamed Salah said: “We train well to always be [set up so] if you have the ball, the [player on the] other side has to be at the second post.”

“I told Cody before the game, every time I have the ball and there’s a chance for me to play the ball to you I will play it for sure. I gave him a few balls this season, him and Lucho [Luis Diaz] as well.”

“We train that ball in training – that we managed to do it in a game is great.”

Salah showed his incredible vision and accuracy with that pass. This assist also became his 100th for Liverpool, what a milestone

Salah has been in scintillating form under Arne Slot, and his outing on Sunday was the 36th time that he has registered a goal and an assist in a single Premier League match, equalling Wayne Rooney and becoming the joint leader in that stat.

In fact, the attacker has scored 11 goals and produced seven assists, the most of any player in the division.

For context, Luis Diaz has the second most goal contributions for Liverpool in the league with five goals and two assists.

The Egyptian is also averaging more goals, more goal involvements and a higher dribble success than he did under previous manager Jurgen Klopp.

Salah clearly understands his importance to the team, and when he was told that his assist to Gakpo for the opener was excellent, the forward responded: “Yeah, I’m a good player!”
